About

Who We Are

We are environmental educators, both formal and non-formal, and people, organizations, and businesses who support environmental education in South Carolina. Environmental Education Association of South Carolina (EEASC) is a nonprofit association with a leadership role in environmental and natural resource conservation education in South Carolina. EEASC was formed in 1977 from the Environmental Education Advisory council which guided efforts in environmental education for the South Carolina Department of Education from 1960 to 1977. Guided and powered by a Board of Directors, EEASC is also supported with one staff member.

What We Do

EEASC works to strengthen environmental literacy across South Carolina by providing educators and communities with the tools, training, and support needed to teach about the natural world. The organization offers professional development opportunities, grant funding, and statewide programs that encourage hands-on learning and stewardship.

From helping teachers integrate sustainability into classrooms to coordinating community science initiatives like South Carolina Adopt-a-Stream, EEASC promotes learning by doing. Through collaboration with schools, agencies, and partner organizations, EEASC helps build a more environmentally aware and engaged South Carolina—where people of all ages understand the impact of their actions and are empowered to protect the state’s natural resources for generations to come.

Our Goals
  • Providing a forum for formal and non-formal educators, agencies, administrators, researchers, concerned citizens, and industrial/commercial leaders to share information, ideas, and resources pertaining to South Carolina’s natural resources and environmental initiatives.
  • Assisting with the development, review, and dissemination of environmental education resources and certifications for teaching in both formal and non-formal settings.
  • Recognizing and rewarding outstanding contributions in environmental education by students, teachers, legislators, and industry leaders in South Carolina.
